We hold these truths to be self-evident: that AI is a tool created by and for humanity, and its development and deployment must be guided by principles that protect human dignity, ensure equitable access, and promote the common good. These rights are indispensible in ensuring AI is developed to serve all people, not just the privileged few, in both the present and future.

I

Right to Transparency

Every person has the right to know when they are interacting with an AI system, how it makes decisions, and what data it uses. AI systems must be explainable, and their logic must be accessible to those affected by their decisions.

II

Right to Privacy

Personal data used by AI systems must be collected with informed consent, protected from unauthorized access, and individuals must have the right to access, correct, and delete their data at any time.

III

Right to Free Speech and Expression

AI systems must also promote free speech and expression, protecting human diversity of opinion and ensuring non-discrimation against belief systems as established in the US Bill of Rigths.

IV

Right to Non-Discrimination

AI systems must not perpetuate or amplify discrimination based on race, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic. Regular audits must ensure fairness in outcomes.

V

Right to Human Oversight

Critical decisions affecting human lives—including employment, healthcare, criminal justice, and financial services—must have meaningful human oversight. No person shall be subject to a fully automated decision that significantly impacts their life.

VI

Right to Appeal

Any person affected by an AI-driven decision has the right to challenge that decision, receive a human review, and obtain a clear explanation of how the decision was reached and how it can be corrected.

VII

Right to Economic Security

Workers displaced by AI automation have the right to meaningful transition support, including retraining programs, income protection, and access to emerging job opportunities. The gains from AI productivity must be shared broadly.

VIII

Right to Access

The benefits of AI must be accessible to all, regardless of economic status or geographic location. Public AI infrastructure must be developed to ensure equitable access to AI-powered services and opportunities.

IX

Right to Democratic Participation

Citizens have the right to participate in decisions about how AI is developed and deployed in their communities. AI governance must include diverse voices, especially those most affected by these technologies.

X

Right to Safety

AI systems must be designed and tested to ensure they do not cause harm to individuals or society. Developers and deployers of AI bear responsibility for the safety of their systems and must be held accountable for failures.

XI

Right to Human Dignity

AI must never be used to diminish human dignity, manipulate human behavior against a person's interests, or undermine human autonomy. The ultimate purpose of AI must be to enhance human flourishing, not to replace or subjugate humanity.
