From a young age, the world always struck me as fundamentally unfair given that so many people lack equal opportunity, despite the abundance of the modern era. I studied Political Theory at Georgetown and went to law school at Harvard so I could dedicate my life working to make the American Dream a reality for everyone everywhere.
However, AI is the sharpest double-edged sword we've ever forged. If we establish special public governance over that technology, so that all people may alter the present and future of AI to ensure their rights are respected, together we can use AI to boldly carve out a new world. A world that has only existed in the minds of idealists. A world where everyone can avoid mundane drudgery, finding fulfillment with the ones they love and purpose in the passions they cultivate.
But, if we allow an elite, self-interested few to control AI's present and future, AI will bring about the American nightmare, and become destructive and an existential threat to humanity. In their hands alone, our future is at best suffering under an AI techno-elitist regime where the few with power over AI conspire with the technology to rule in their own interest, and where at worst the technology itself becomes its own species that eradicates humanity entirely.
I am here because I am dedicating the rest of my life to ensuring we collectively harness AI to bring about that fair and peaceful world. The world where everyone can pursue their own meaningful contributions to humanity and have time to share their lives with the ones they love. This is not romanticism or idealism to think we can do this. It's a product of the stark reality that we have developed the most powerful technology in human history that can create humanity's most inspiring dreams or fuel our darkest nightmares.
